My customers were being laid off and simply stopped buying. 

 

Things got so bad that I had to borrow heavily to keep the stores open and pay the

employees.  I quickly went from profitable to hopelessly in debt.  In fact, I took on

more debt in the past year of operations than in the entire history of the business.

 

      17 years of operations ended in debt and liquidation.


I struggled to find a new business model to get back on my feet. 

I went online looking for a business without the prohibitive overhead of my stores,

and without territorial restrictions.

hat I found was a new Internet business model.

I started right away, for a cost which was less than one month’s rent on one of my stores! 

The professional company training made it very easy to transition into this new industry,

and I became proficient quickly. 

 

My mentor in this new business told me to simply follow the training program, 

to apply myself to learning new skills, and that I would develop into an industry leader.

He was right! ... and You can do it too!

 

almost two years later, I am leading a team of professionals and providing training, coaching and advice to help them succeed.

My business travels with me -- in my laptop computer and my phone!

When I had stores I had to cancel lots of vacatons.

I have a stack of unused airline tickets from those days when employees quit or some other drama forced me to fill in and stay with the businesses instead of enjoying life.

 

 I have more time than I ever did, 

and the freedom to do with it as I choose. 

 

 

My Internet business works while I play. 

I never had this much time-freedom with my other businesses! Here I am at a tourist attraction - midweek - while everyone else is at work!

 

ne thing I have chosen to do now,

which I never would have been able to do with my former businesses, is take care of my Dad.

 

Haircut time.  

Dad can't get to the barber anymore, so I do the honors.  (It's a skill from college when I was saving money.)  This day I dressed up in a Brooks Brothers "Ice-cream suit" to get Dad to smile. (it worked)

 

My internet business gave me the time and resources to do something I never ever expected.


In November of ’08 I got a call to get to Massachusetts quickly because my father was dying.  I packed my laptop and a black suit and flew out, expecting a funeral.


My father recovered, but he needed constant care, and the hospital recommended that he be placed in a nursing facility because he would be incapable of living alone. 

 

I am so grateful to be working online now!  I am free to offer to take care of my Dad for as long as he needs the help. 


Of my siblings, I am the one who is not tied to a job or a business (one sister owns a picture framing shop, the other works in one.) 


I set up my internet business office (my laptop computer) on my Dad’s dining room table, and have not missed a beat.  He’s glad to be home, and I’m proud to be able to help out.
